Zine Making: An Introduction
So you wanted to make a zine but didn’t know where to start? Writer’s block? Photocopier jitters? This neat little guide will put you right. The zine, which was originally produced for a workshop in 2003, encourages would-be zinemakers to pick up a pair of scissors and start carving out their own niche in this most democratic of media. It includes a brief charter of self-publication dating back to the pamphlets of the American Revolution right through to the prevalence of fanzines during the punk and Riot Grrrl movements. There’s also plenty of practical advice on how to assemble and distribute your work. A welcome reminder of the importance of expressing your own ideas when the mainstream brushes them aside.
