Sheffield-based artist Jim Connolly got in touch with us about Moronoid, a collection of seven short stories distinguished by their lively tone and lightly macabre touch. The comic comes with two alternate covers, one [pictured] with a snapshot of Anjan Sarkar’s playfully sinister yuppie thriller, the other showcasing Jim Connolly’s vibrant, superhero-tinged drawing style. Featuring work from Jim, Anjan, Philip Barrett and Marcus Daley, Moronoid was a very welcome discovery for us. I particularly enjoyed ‘Bedsit Story’, which transcribes the brutally honest letter sent by a Manchester landlord to his tenants, with the rather tragic epilogue: “I hope this explanation will help you to accept Thursday night as a one-off. . . and in future you’ll hardly know I live here.” Here’s to a second issue!
