Asylum/High On Burning Photographs

An unusual and rewarding work, Asylum/High On Burning Photographs showcases the collaborative effort of two penpals who have never met. Established zinester Ocean writes from the confines of her numerous jobs, some of which make her feel trapped and helpless, others which keep her entertained. Meanwhile Matt contributes to his first ever zine from a prison cell, resulting in a number of engaging philosophical and deeply personal essays — one of which memorably describes how human relationships are just like zombie movies. In Ocean’s own words, the zine is a made-to-measure example of “the hope, the energy, the brilliant sentences that exist not for an editor or an agent, but because the person writing them had to get it out there, and because they knew somebody was listening, somewhere.”
