Making Zines // Reviewing Zines // Workshops & Activities
The wait is over! If you were sat on tenterhooks longing for the next instalment of quaint and clumsy balladry to drop, then you’ll be relieved to hear Gaudy Verse II just got printed. For newcomers, this is a zine dragging poetry through the mud for the sake of a cheap rhyme. Inspired by Prohibition-era poets (Dorothy Parker, I tip my highball at you), these volumes have been slugged out through a wave of studenthood, dolehood and nightmarejobhood. This time, we’re joined by the quarter-century blues, tackling subjects as profound as bearded young men eating lentils, and smartphones that turn the lives of their owners into Day of the Triffids. If all of this sounds like garbage to you, then take some comfort from the knowledge that a copy costs just £1.50. And I’ve a whole box of ‘em.
