Gin Palace
Gin Palace is another dazzling comic compilation edited by Rob Jackson. Like The Pasty Anthology, reviewed here a few weeks ago, it’s a highly enjoyable collection of cartoons linked loosely by theme. Rob’s own contribution is ‘The Ballad of Hatty Jack’, a madcap Victorian escapade in which a young urchin rails against injustice in the world of millinery. The other comic strips are equally charismatic, featuring the utter despondency of a man struggling to get served at a crowded bar, and one woman’s autobiography as seen through alcoholic beverages. Never fear, we’ll have copies for sale at the Sheffield Zine Fair next Sunday.
